Vietcombank appoints first foreign director

Hanoi (VNA) – The JointStock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) on October 20 appointedThomas William Tobin as Retail Banking Director, the bank’s first foreign seniorexecutive.

In his remarks at the appointmentannouncing ceremony, Vietcombank Chairman Nghiem Xuan Thanh said the banktargets to earn the No.1 Retail Bank of Vietnam title by 2020 in its long-termstrategy.

Thanh expected that with 30 years of experiencein finance and banking and deep understanding of the Vietnamese and the globalmarkets, Tobin will create breakthroughs in the bank’s retail banking and helpit achieve the goal.

Tobin, a Canadian national and apostgraduate alumnus of MacMaster University, previously worked as Regional Directorfor North Asia of Visa, a global payment technology company. He also heldmanaging positions in HSBC.

He is a professional in e-payment,retailing and property management, wholesale and commercial banking.-VNA
