Hanoi (VNA) – The budget carrier Vietjet Air has been honoured among significant donors of the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund and the fund’s “For the Beloved Hoang Sa and Truong Sa” club.
At a ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City recently, a certificate of merit was bestowed upon the company for its contribution to the foundation.
Vietjet has so far spent billions of VND on operating free-of-charge flights bringing disadvantaged children to their home towns for Lunar New Year holidays.
The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund - named after a young ethnic boy who was killed while doing liaison duty for the revolutionary army during the French resistance war - was set up in 1999 by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to support poor ethnic students in their studies.
In 2014, the fund established its “For Beloved Hoang Sa and Truong Sa” club with the aim of offering assistance to families of naval soldiers and fishermen who are safeguarding the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.
So far this year, the fund and its club have granted 8,000 scholarships and raised more than 76 billion VND (3.28 million USD) worth of donations./.
