Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s representative has affirmed that the country’s policies are always centred on people at a UN Summit.

The statement was made by the Vietnamese Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Nguyen Phuong Nga, during the World Humanitarian Summit that took place in Istanbul, Turkey on May 23-24.

Vietnam is fully aware of the importance of enhancing national capacity and people’s participation in dealing with humanitarian challenges and building a peaceful and prosperous society, said Nga, who led the Vietnamese delegation to the event.

Vietnam has pledged to implement its obligations in accordance with international commitments which Vietnam is a member of and work with international and regional partners to better tackle natural disasters, she said.

The two-day Summit gathered more than 50 leaders of State and Government and other officials from 173 countries, and thousands of representatives from international financial organisations, non-government organisations, and businesses.

In discussions during the Summit, participants committed to do more to prevent conflict, protect civilians, uphold international law on human rights and strengthen localities’ and people’s capacity to respond to humanitarian crises.

According to UN statistics, more 130 million people across the world are living on humanitarian resources due to wars, conflicts, natural disasters and diseases.-VNA
