Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Airlines and its Japanese strategic partner All Nippon Airways (ANA) will kick off their code share flights on 10 Vietnam-Japan routes and 25 domestic routes in both countries on October 30.

Members of ANA Mileage Club and Vietnam Airlines’ Lotusmiles will be enabled to earn frequent flyer air miles on these code share flights, with rewards redeemed on all flights marketed and operated by the two carriers.

Under the code share agreement, Vietnam Airlines cabin crew will join ANA flights to facilitate customer interactions via interpretation and announcements in Vietnamese.

Japan’s Haneda and Vietnam’s Tan Son Nhat international airports are arranged to offer integrated support services for both airlines, including check-in, lounge and baggage services.

This is the first cooperation project between the sides after ANA Holding Inc acquired 8.77 percent stake in Vietnam Airlines, becoming a strategic shareholder of the national flag carrier. Under a transaction, reached on July 1, ANA paid more than 2.4 trillion VND (109 million USD) for the stake.

President and CEO of Vietnam Airlines Duong Tri Thanh said the mutually beneficial partnership with ANA will help his airlines diversify products, boost competitiveness and get closer to its five-star goal.

Demand for air services between Japan and Vietnam is growing, said Shinya Katanozaka, ANA President and CEO, adding that by connecting the two countries, both airlines contribute to promoting bilateral ties, especially in economy and culture.-VNA
