Vietnam approved as energy charter observer

Vietnam will become an observer of conferences of the International Energy Charter by adopting this statement, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung agreed.
Vietnam will become an observer of conferences of the InternationalEnergy Charter by adopting this statement, Prime Minister Nguyen TanDung agreed.

The Prime Minister requested the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade, in collaboration with the Ministry of ForeignAffairs and related agencies, to complete all the necessary diplomaticprocedures and consider proposing Vietnam as an official member of thecharter.

The International Energy Charter, initiated by theEuropean Union and based on the European Energy Charter, was ratified ata ministerial meeting in The Hague, the Netherlands, in May 2015.

Itstates basic principles and contents on international energycooperation with a view to developing sustainable energy and increasingenergy security, which is in conformity with Vietnam’s policies andlaws.

The participation in the International Energy Charter isexpected to offer opportunities for Vietnam to cooperate with partners,promote dialogues and share experience in energy.-VNA
