The 20 th ASEAN Armies Rifles’ Meet (AARM 20) opened in Malacca , Malaysia , on October 18, drawing the participation of army shooters from the region’s ten countries.
The Vietnamese team, led by Major General Nguyen Van Pha, Deputy Head of the Ground Forces Officer School No. 1, will compete in the men’s and women’s K54 rifle, men’s AK submachine gun, men’s CKC rifle and men’s PKMS heavy machine gun.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Chief of the Malaysian Royal Army Zulkifi Zainal Abidin noted that the AARM 20 is an important event in the regional defence programme in 2010, providing an effective foundation for interaction between the bloc’s armies.
He said that host Malaysia strongly believes the event will help to tighten friendship between the participating teams as well as foster ties between ASEAN armies.
The AARM 20 will last until October 29./.
