Vietnam and Bhutan officially established diplomatic ties on Jan. 19.
A joint declaration to this effect was signed in New York by the Head of the Vietnamese permanent delegation to the UN, Ambassador Le Hoai Trung and Head of the Bhutanese mission to the UN Ambassador Latu Oangchuk.
Vietnam and Bhutan also agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at the ambassadorial level and apply the 1962 Convention on diplomatic relations and the 1963 Convention on Consular Relations in their relations.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Ambassador Latu Oangchuk affirmed that the establishment of Vietnam-Bhutan diplomatic ties is an important event and marks a new development step to meet the desire to enhance the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two Governments and peoples.
