Vietnam and Bhutan officially established diplomatic ties on Jan. 19.
Ajoint declaration to this effect was signed in New York by the Head ofthe Vietnamese permanent delegation to the UN, Ambassador Le Hoai Trungand Head of the Bhutanese mission to the UN Ambassador Latu Oangchuk.
Vietnamand Bhutan also agreed to exchange diplomatic representatives at theambassadorial level and apply the 1962 Convention on diplomaticrelations and the 1963 Convention on Consular Relations in theirrelations.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Ambassador LatuOangchuk affirmed that the establishment of Vietnam-Bhutan diplomaticties is an important event and marks a new development step to meet thedesire to enhance the mutually beneficial cooperation between the twoGovernments and peoples.
