Vietnam calls for WFTU’s further companionship in trade union

HCM City (VNA) – President of theVietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) Nguyen Dinh Khang on September 4called on the World Federation of Trade Union (WFTU) to continue itscompanionship along with its development.

During his talks with WFTU President Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba in Ho Chi Minh City, Khang saidover the past 70 years, Vietnam’s trade union has proven itself as an activeand responsible member of the federation.

The official briefed his guest on changes in Vietnam’s trade union which, hesaid, has brought into full play its role in caring for and protectinglegitimate and legal rights and interests of labourers, and buildingprogressive and harmonious relations in businesses.

He thanked the WFTU and President Makwayiba forassigning Vietnam to host the 18th World Trade Union Congress slatedfor 2021, and pledged that the VGCL will make all-out efforts in the holding ofthe event, helping promote Vietnam’s position and image to internationalfriends.

For his part, Makwayiba affirmed that Vietnam is an important member of theWFTU and the selection of the country as the venue of the 18th WorldTrade Congress aims to send a message of peace and solidarity to the world.

The WFTU leader expressed his hope that the VGCL will successfully host theevent, saying he will elect Khang as WFTU Vice President for the next term.

Makwayiba urged the VGCL to step up cooperation with the WFTU and play a moreactive role in activities of the federation.-VNA
