The Vietnamese and Cambodian armies will continue to develop their cooperation this year in an intensive, effective and practical manner, focusing on the exchange of delegations, training and the search and repatriation of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ remains.
The two sides reached the agreement during a meeting between Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Tea Banh in Ho Chi Minh City on January 16.
They affirmed that the cooperation outcomes will actively contribute to the economic development of both nations as well as ensuring a peaceful and stable environment in the region, thwarting schemes to drive a wedge between the two peoples.
Both sides also noted with pleasure their effective cooperation in various fields last year, especially in maintaining peace and stability along the shared border of the two countries.
Minister Thanh spoke highly of the fine neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability between Vietnam and Cambodia .
Based on that relationship, defence cooperation and mutual assistance between the two neighbours have been maintained and developed, he said.
The Vietnamese army and people always unite with and support their Cambodian counterparts in the cause of national construction and defence, he stressed.
Thanh also used this occasion to thank the Cambodian Government and Defence Ministry for their cooperation with and assistance to Vietnam in searching and repatriating the remains of its volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Cambodia .
For his part, General Tea Banh affirmed that the Cambodian royal army and people always attach importance to the time-honoured neighbourliness and friendship with Vietnam , and will do their utmost to protect and develop this relationship.
