Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam and China have agreed to bolster cross-border defence exchanges, Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People’s Army) newspaper reported.

The consensus came in a meeting between Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Deputy Chief of the General Staff Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Qi Jianguo on September 10.

During the meeting, the pair acknowledged recent progress in the two countries’ defence relations, with the highlight being the two sides’ border guard forces relations which have contributed to peace, friendship, and developed land borders between the two countries.

The pair consented to increase friendship exchanges between border guard forces and promote new cooperation methods to boost comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed to follow the two countries’ agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea disputes in line with international laws.

The meeting was in the framework of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to China to attend the China-ASEAN Expo and the 13 th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.-VNA
