Vietnam-China land border demarcation reviewed

A conference was held in Hanoi on May 12 to review the Vietnam-China land border demarcation under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem.

Representatives from relevant ministries, sectors and seven northern mountainous provinces, sharing the border with China attended the conference.

Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the National Border Committee Ho Xuan Son, reported the implementation of demarcation and settlement of issues on the Vietnam-China land border from 2001-2008 and highlighted future tasks for border management.

Border demarcation steering boards of the ministries of defence, public security, natural resources and environment and the provinces of Quang Ninh, Cao Bang, Lao Cai and Ha Giang presented their reports.

Deputy PM Khiem, who is also head of the State Steering Board for Border Demarcation, praised the historical significance of the completion of the demarcation of the Vietnam-China land border, highlighting contributions by ministries, sectors and localities to the works.

In order to build the Vietnam-China land border of peace, friendship and long-lasting stability, the Deputy PM asked ministries, sectors and localities to closely coordinate to implement documents on the Vietnam-China land border following the Prime Minister’s instruction on July 27, 2010.

He also asked ministries, sectors and localities to complete the apparatus of land border demarcation steering boards at all levels, manage the border with up-to-date information and publicise the works in the country and abroad.

Deputy PM Khiem asked the Vietnamese side to coordinate with the Chinese side in border management and effectively operate the joint border committee and urged northern border provinces boost international cooperation to develop local economies./.
