HCM City (VNA) – The Vietnamese cinematography is lacking high-quality works though the number of films made is on the rise and investment in the industry has been diverse, heard a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City on April 9.

According to Dang Xuan Hai, President of the Vietnam Cinema Association, the film industry is developing strongly.

In 2016, more than 50 films were produced, higher than the figures of 30-40 films in the previous years, but few of them had high quality, he said.

Former President of the association Tran Luan Kim stated that the main reason is the lack of attractive scripts.

Sharing the same view, other participants affirmed that an interesting screenplay is a weighty contribution to the quality of a film.

Therefore, they stressed the need to train young screenwriters so that they can produce thrilling works depicting contemporary life bearing Vietnamese cultural characters.-VNA
