Vietnam climbs two spots in global postal development index

Vietnam climbed two places from last year to rank 47th out of 168 countries and territories in the Integrated Index for Postal Development (2IDP) 2021, according to the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam climbed two places from last year to rank 47th out of 168 countries and territories in the Integrated Index for PostalDevelopment (2IDP) 2021, according to the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The2021 2IDP ranking was announced by the UPU during a ceremony which wasvirtually held on October 9 to mark the World Post Day. The theme of the WorldPost Day 2021 was “Innovate to recover.”

Thisyear, leaders of the postal sector throughout the globe exchanged views oninnovation and application of high technology in delivery, e-commerce,logistics and others. They also discussed how to maintain provision of postalservices to the community in each member states.

The2IPD provides a composite picture of postal development around the world, witha ranking that reflects the performance of traditional postal operators acrossfour dimensions - Reliability, Reach, Relevance and Resilience.

Thisyear’s ranking covers 168 countries and territories with a global average scoreof 33, compared to 36 in 2020. Once again, Switzerland secured the top spot,followed by Germany, Austria, Japan and France.

Bycontrast, the degree of dispersion of the overall ranking has steadilyincreased, peaking at 71 percent in 2021, possibly because of the havoc createdby the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, the world is witnessing a widening “postaldevelopment divide”, with the best 2IPD performers also appearing as the most resilientto the crisis./.
