Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam shares the concern of many over the conflictin Nagorno-Karabakh region and supports reconciliation efforts by the OSCE MinskGroup, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said at the ministry’sregular press briefing on October 1.
She called for restraint from both sides to de-escalate tensions in theinterests of the two countries’ peoples and to resolve any disputes by peacefulmeans on the basis of international law, to contribute to peace and stabilityin the region and the world.
The Nagorno-Karabakh region is internationally-recognised as part ofAzerbaijan but is controlled by ethnic Armenians. This has resulted in aterritorial war between the two countries, which peaked between February 1988 andMay 1994.
Fierce fighting broke out again in the region on September 27./.
