Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports Tran Duc Phan had a working session with YamelRuiz Barranco, Economic and Trade Counsellor of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam,to discuss sports cooperation, particularly in boxing.
Phanhighlighted Vietnam – Cuba cooperation in sports, and expressed his hope thetwo sides will increase technical cooperation and delegation exchanges.
Both countriesfacilitate exchanges of information, documents and tools for coaching andlearning sports while encouraging coaches and experts to participate in jointworkshops, seminars and training courses, as well as the organization offriendly competition events.
Vietnam hasfocused on a number of sports that Cuba is strong in, such as boxing,volleyball and marathons.
Vietnam needsconsultation for boxing to compete in the Asian Games to take place inIndonesia in 2018.
The countryalso hopes that Cuba will provide physical therapy for its athletes and train humanresources, share experience and technology.
For her part,Yamel Ruiz Barranco hailed the recent development of Vietnam’s sports,particularly the country’s achievements at the 2016 Rio Olympics and ParalympicsRio, and expressed her wish to promote sports cooperation between the twonations.
She said Cuba nominatedfive specialists in volleyball, boxing and sport medicine to assist Vietnam.
Phan called onCuba to host Vietnamese athletes in Cuba for training.-VNA
