Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc and Cuban First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelino Medina Gonzalez co-chaired the fourth political consultation at the Deputy Foreign Minister level in Hanoi on September 5.

Ngoc congratulated Cuba on its important achievements attained during its update of the economy model, which has raised Cuba’s position in the regional and global arenas.

He asserted that Vietnam attaches great importance to continuously expanding the special partnership with Cuba, and is ready to share with Cuba its experience withdrawn during its “doi moi” (renewal) process over the past three decades.

Marcelino Medina Gonzalez lauded Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and comprehensive international integration, and its active contributions to peace and stability in the region.

He emphasised that Cuba highly values the national development experience and lessons shared by Vietnam. He thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for showing solidarity with Cuba, especially special sentiments that Vietnam has given to Cuba’s late leader Fidel Castro, as well as effective support for Cuba over the past years.

The two sides were delighted that the relations between the two countries have been increasingly reinforced and boosted over sectors, reflected by the good results of visits made by their Party and State leaders.

The officials agreed on measures to step up the bilateral solidarity as well as multi-faceted cooperation, especially in agriculture, pharmacy, consumer goods, construction materials, tourism infrastructure, biotechnology, and telecommunications.

They also affirmed that the two countries will ratchet up close coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums to protect their legitimate interests and heighten their positions in the region and the world.

The officials discussed stances on regional and international issues of shared concern.

Later, the Cuban guest had a working session with Standing Deputy Head of the Commission for External Affairs of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Tran Dac Loi.

He is currently on an official visit to Vietnam from September 4-6.-VNA
