Vietnam develops advanced organ transplant techniques

Hanoi (March 20, 2024) - The Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in Hanoi hosted the 2024 Kidney Transplant Scientific Conference on March 19.

Various reports were presented at the conference, including: Summarizing kidney transplants at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital from 2006 to 2023; Cytomegalovirus infection after kidney transplant; Experience from 1,000 cases. Each of the reports contained highly specific content related to the topic.

Speaking at the conference, Vuong Anh Duong, Deputy Director of the Department of Health Examination and Treatment Management under the Ministry of Health stated that Vietnam has effectively implemented organ transplant techniques, including successful transplants of the kidney, liver, lungs, heart, pancreas, and limbs.

Organ transplant procedures in Vietnam are increasingly advanced, keeping pace with global standards. Specialists focus on boosting immunity, reducing rejection risk, and preventing infections in kidney transplants.

According to Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital Duong Duc Hung, the hospital has been a pioneer in organ transplantation, especially kidney transplants, since 2002. They have conducted approximately 100 kidney transplants per year.

After almost 20 years, kidney transplants at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital have seen remarkable success. The five-year survival rate for transplanted kidneys is over 98.9%, and the 10-year survival rate is 95.7%.
