Vietnam enhances ties with India’s Karnataka state

Chairman Trong stressed the further promotion of exchanges and cooperation through parliamentary channels as well as between localities in Vietnam and Karnataka at his talks with the state’s Governor H.B. Bhardwaj during his current visit to India .

Vietnam and India treasure their long-lasting relationship, with ties that were established and fostered by late President Ho Chi Minh and late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Chairman Trong said, emphasising the need for both sides to continue to build on this legacy.

Governor Bhardwaj expressed pleasure with current cooperation projects in oil and gas, affirming his willingness to do his utmost to enhance similar efforts in areas of focus for Vietnam such as aerospace and high technology and infrastructure construction.

The Governor stressed the need to maintain and promote the spirit of their traditional ties among the younger generations of both countries.

Collaboration between the two legislatures will be of great significance in promoting forward progress of the two democracies, contributing to developing the India-Vietnam strategic partnership, he added.

Also on the same day, Chairman Trong met with Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council Sri V. Mathikatti and Secretary of Karnataka Legislative Assembly S.B. Patil.

The chairman expressed his wish to boost multi-faceted cooperation with India , including Karnataka state. He said he hoped that Karnataka, with its great potential and strength, will accelerate joint efforts with Vietnam and assist the country in terms of information technology, as well as exchange programmes between the two legislative bodies.

Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and his delegation also visited the Indian Institute of Science, and the information technology and software industry centre Infosys./.
