Vietnam exports over 4.4 million tonnes of rice in 8 months

Vietnam’s rice exports are estimated at more than 4.4 million tonnes in the first eight months of this year, bringing home 2.01 billion USD in revenues.

The figures represented year-on-yeardecreases of 9 percent and 5.3 percent in volume and value,respectively, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment.

In August alone, the country earned 267 million USD from shipping 584,000 tonnes of rice abroad.

China led Vietnamese rice consumers with 36.18 percent of thetotal volume, followed by the Philippines , 23 percent; Ghana , 5.11percent; Malaysia , 4.39 percent; and Singapore , 3.32 percent.

The Vietnam Food Association (VFA) has forecast that the country’srice exports are likely to reach 6.3 million tonnes this year.

Last year, Vietnam exported 6.7 million tonnes, 11 percent lowerthan the initial target, as the sector faced many difficulties.-VNA
