Leaders of Vietnam and Finland have pledged the most favourable conditions for both countries’ businesses to enhance cooperation.
At their meeting on May 22, State President Nguyen Minh Triet and Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen agreed to raise the two-way trade and Finland ’s direct investment in Vietnam to 1 billion USD in the next few years.
They also expressed their delight at development of the bilateral traditional friendship and cooperation and agreed to strengthen cooperation in all areas, especially economy-trade-investment, science-technology, particularly clean technology, education-training, labour, and response to climate change.
Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen affirmed that Finland will continue providing ODA to Vietnam, focusing on new areas of cooperation such as clean energy, response to climate change and seawater raising and scientific research.
He spoke highly of Vietnam’s recent socio-economic developments, particularly the a high economic growth rate even in the global economic crisis.
The Finnish Prime Minister also hailed the Vietnamese community and pledged further support for them to live and integrate into the Finnish society, contributing to promote friendship between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed international and regional issues of common concern and agreed to closely work at international forums. They spoke highly of establishing the political consultancy mechanism at deputy foreign minister level between the two countries./.
