Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao on November 14 met President of the Berlin House of Representatives Ralf Wieland, saying that he hopes the two capitals will further broaden their cooperation in the coming time.
Thao showcased Hanoi ’s potential and strengths as well its weaknesses during the meeting,
He said he hopes Berlin will share its knowledge with Hanoi and support the city in four main areas that include infrastructure investment and planning, particularly traffic systems, human resource training, tourism cooperation as well as cultural and urban management exchange.
The guest was introduced to Hanoi ’s problematic traffic system, in which roads and streets do not meet the requirements of the rapidly growing population, citing the shortage of human resources in urban planning and difficulties in the city management.
Wieland spoke of his awe of Hanoi ’s beauty spots and unique cultural identity. He applauded the city’s significant development and promised to make detailed action plans to help it solve the aforementioned problems.
Germany is the EU’s leading investor in Vietnam with 184 projects worth more than 900 million USD. The country has 40 projects in Hanoi worth 47 million USD./.
