Vietnam honours outstanding achievements in various fields

Vietnamese men from the worlds of culture, sport, architecture, gastronomy and business have been at honoured the "Men of the Year 2012" ceremony held in HCM City on January 12.
Vietnamese men from the worlds of culture, sport, architecture,gastronomy and business have been at honoured the "Men of the Year 2012"ceremony held in HCM City on January 12.

The Team ofthe Year award was devoted to film director Victor Vu, and actors VanTrang, Maya and Minh Thuan who starred in the film Bi Mat Tham Do(Scandal).

The Architect of the Year title went to Vo TrongNghia, who has become famous nationwide and internationally for hisenvironmentally-friendly buildings.

Luke Nguyen won the Chef ofthe Year award. He is best known as the host of Australian televisionseries Luke Nguyen's Vietnam in which he travels through the country,cooking in the ad hoc manner of Vietnam's street vendors.

Tien Minh won the Sportsman of the Year award, while comic artist Tran Thanh was named Funny Man of the Year.

The "Men of the Year" awards were launched by Sports, Culture and Menmagazine in 2005. The publication's journalists vote for the candidatesbased on different criteria including their professionalism,contribution to their field and influence on other people.

Others were also honoured for their outstanding performance over thepast year including maths professor Ngo Bao Chau, film directors TranAnh Hung and Phan Dang Di and singer Tung Duong. -VNA

AIC case in Ca Mau: Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan sentenced to 10 years in prison

The People's Court of Ca Mau province on August 12 sentenced former Chairwoman and General Director of the Advanced International Joint Stock Company (AIC) Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan to ten years in prison for "violating bidding regulations, causing serious consequences" in a case involving the inflation of equipment prices for environmental monitoring stations in the former Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau province).

Vietnam’s language push abroad gains traction

The 2023–2030 project to honour the Vietnamese language overseas kicked off at a timely moment, meeting the OVs' expectations for wider language spread. Australian tourists show growing appetite for Vietnam

Australia has become one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing long-haul tourism markets. Vietnam welcomed 490,880 Australian visitors in 2024, up 26% year on year and around 28% higher than in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first seven months of 2026, the country received 396,648 Australian tourists, a year-on-year increase of 25.8%, placing Australia among Vietnam’s top 10 source markets.

Vietnam-Germany cooperation strengthened in educational publishing
