Vietnam import-export turnover hits 400 billion USD

Hanoi (VNA) – Total import-export revenue thisyear reached 400 billion USD in mid December, representing a fourfold increasein ten years.

At a ceremony marking the record figure held in Hanoi onDecember 19, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said the country firstachieved 100 billion USD in foreign trade value in 2007, the year it joined theWorld Trade Organisation.

The figure rose to 200 billion USD in 2011, and 300 billionUSD in 2015.

Hue noted that it took Vietnam just two years to push thenumber to 400 billion USD.

He attributed the outcome to concerted efforts of the entirenation and praised the customs sector for its hard work in administrativereform.

The Deputy PM stressed Vietnam’s rankings in the WTO’s tradeprofile have improved significantly. The country was ranked at 50th in export and 41st in import in 2007, respectively increasing to 26th and 25th in 2016.

Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung said his ministry willcoordinate with relevant agencies and localities to remove barriers facing thebusiness community, with a goal toward 500 billion USD worth of import-exportrevenue in the next two years.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs,Vietnam’s import – export value was 385.77 billion USD in the first 11 monthsof 2017, soaring by 67.93 billion USD from 2016, the highest annual increase todate. During the period, the country posted the highest-ever trade surplus of3.17 billion USD.-VNA

Industrial production posts strong growth in first two months

According to the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Finance, the index of industrial production (IIP) in February was estimated to decrease 18.4% from the previous month but increase 1% year on year. Overall, in the January–February period, the IIP rose 10.4% compared with the same period last year.

Nghe An steps up reforms to attract FDI

In 2025, the provincial People’s Committee licensed 25 new FDI projects and approved capital adjustments for 20 others, bringing the total newly registered and additional investment to more than 1 billion USD. Nearly 35,500 new businesses set up in first two months

The enterprises registered combined capital of about 313.7 trillion VND and more than 167,500 employees. Compared with the same period last year, the number of new businesses surged by 70.7%, while registered capital rose by 36.1% and registered labour increased by 19.1%.
