(Photo: VNA) New Delhi (VNA) – Vietnam and India hold great potential in boosting trade offruits, Shubhra, Adviser Trade from the Indian Ministry of Agriculture andFarmers’ Welfare, told a virtual workshop held by the Embassy of Vietnam inIndia and the Indian Importers Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IICCI) onOctober 7.
The event,themed “Fruits and Food: Newtrade opportunity for Vietnam and India”, gathered more than 100 importers, exporters and business associationsfrom the two countries.
Shubhra saidIndia has been emerged as one of the world’s leading traders of fruits andagricultural products over recent years. India can supply Vietnam with a numberof its key farm produce, such as pomegranate, grape, wheat and cotton, whileVietnam produces high-quality dragon fruit, coffee, cocoa and cashew nut, shesaid.
She went on tosay both countries have major advantages in agriculture so there is still great room for them to further expand cooperation in this area.
Vietnam andIndia have many things to learn from and supplement each other to foster awin-win partnership, she noted, adding that India wants to become Vietnam’sleading trade partner.
VietnameseAmbassador to India Pham Sanh Chau, for his part, introduced attendees to Vietnam’s signature agriculturalproducts – coffee, cocoa, cashew nut and coconut. He expected India to removetariff and non-tariff barriers and streamline public administrative proceduresto provide broader market access for Vietnamese exporters.
He also urgedIndia to open market for a number of Vietnamese fruits, including longan,pomelo, durian and rambutan among others.
This workshopis a good chance for connecting Vietnamese and Indian enterprises and businessassociations in fruits and food, he said, pledging that he will do his utmost to facilitatebilateral trade and promptly help firms from both countries solve problems.
