Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung emphasised that the Vietnam–Laos relationship is a rare example in the world of pure, faithful and enduring friendship, tested by time and continuously strengthened year-on-year.
Vietnam and Laos have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in border management and development during the 34th annual meeting between their respective border delegations held in Vientiane from December 25–27.
Both sides agreed to further deepen traditional cooperation by lifting the bilateral relationship to the level of “great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion”. This new strategic orientation is expected to generate fresh momentum for the bilateral relations in the new development phase, reinforcing political trust and expanding cooperation space for both countries.
Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh has congratualted the Lao Embassy on the 50th National Day of Laos, reiterating that Vietnam remains a great friend and loyal comrade of Laos.
In their message, Vietnamese leaders emphasised that over the past five decades, under the sound leadership of the LPRP, the Lao people have overcome numerous challenges, steadfastly safeguarding and building the nation, and achieving significant and historic accomplishments across all fields.

This visit is one of Vietnam’s most important diplomatic activities in 2025 and marks General Secretary Lam’s first state visit to Laos in his new position. It takes place at a highly significant moment as Laos celebrates the 50th anniversary of its National Day (December 2, 1975 – 2025), and as both Parties prepare for their National Congresses in 2026 — key events that will outline major policy directions for each country’s development.
A central event of the visit will be the high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party. This is the most important cooperation mechanism between the two Parties and countries, providing a framework for discussing national developments, reviewing bilateral cooperation, and shaping long-term strategic orientations that serve the people of both nations.
Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1962, the minister reaffirmed, Vietnam and Laos have always stood shoulder to shoulder during their struggles for independence and their causes of national construction and development.
The Lao diplomat stressed that since the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, Vietnam has become an independent nation, overcome countless challenges, firmly safeguarded its sovereignty, and steadily advanced into a new era, with its economy now ranking 35th in the world.
The “priceless asset” of the Vietnam–Laos relationship was nurtured by Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane, and Souphanouvong, and has been preserved and strengthened by generations of leaders and people of both countries.
Throughout Vietnam’s 80-year history, the special solidarity and close bonds with Laos have been a vital source of strength for the Vietnamese revolution. The two nations have always stood shoulder to shoulder in different periods of history and today continue to accompany each other in their national development.
Vietnamese State Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan stressed that under the direct guidance of the Politburos of the two Parties, especially the two General Secretaries, and together with the joint efforts of ministries and sectors, many strategic cooperation projects have been implemented in a short time, marking new breakthroughs in the bilateral relations.
Bounleua said he has personally witnessed Vietnam’s transformation over the past eight decades, noting that since the launch of Doi Moi (renewal) process nearly 40 years ago, Vietnam has made great, comprehensive, and historic strides.
