Hanoi (VNA) –
Vietnam lost 0-1 through a last minute goal to Australia in a Group A match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U16 Women’s Championship’s second qualifier in Laos on March 5.

The Vietnamese players foxed their opponents in the early stages by going straight on the attack from the kick-off.

But the hot weather conditions saw the Vietnamese team run out of energy as they failed to keep up their high-tempo start.

Despite that, it was not until the 89th minute they went behind through a strike by Australia’s Jordan Jasnos.

With two wins, Australia secured a ticket to the knock-out round while Vietnam need to beat Iran in the last round game on March 7 to qualify. Earlier, Vietnam defeated hosts Laos 1-0 in the opener on March 3.

In the first qualifying round, Vietnam defeated Lebanon 7-0, Bahrain 14-0 and the United Arab Emirates 4-0, and lost 2-0 to hosts Bangladesh in Group F. These results secured the team the second place and a spot in the next round.

The second qualifying round include eight teams and divided into two groups.

The two winners of each group will qualify for the final round of the AFC Women’s U16 Championship with the hosts Thailand together with the winner, runner-up and second runner-up of the previous tournament, namely the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and Japan.-VNA
