Vietnam and Malaysia have agreed to further their bilateral defence cooperation through increasing delegation exchanges and boosting their affiliations in search and rescue, navy and personnel training.

The agreement was reached during talks between Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh and his Malaysian counterpart Dato Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in Hanoi on February 25, as part of the latter’s ongoing two-day visit to Vietnam.

During their discussion, the two sides reviewed the outcomes of their defence partnership over the past year on the basis of the memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence cooperation signed in 2008.

Minister Thanh emphasised the value of the guest’s visit, saying it will contribute to growing friendship, mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples and armies.

The Malaysian defence leader thanked Vietnam for its warm welcome, confirming that his visit is intended to further the relationship with Vietnam in the coming time.-VNA
