Vietnam – Netherlands relations thriving

Relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands have been flourishing, said Vietnamese Ambassador to the European country Nguyen Van Doan.

Talking with Vietnam News Agency’s reporters on July 1 upon thearrival of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Uong Chu Luu inthe country for a working visit, Doan said the two countries haveconducted regular visit exchanges to boost their political ties.

He recalled Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s visit to Vietnam in Juneand Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to the country in March toattend the Nuclear Security Summit.

The diplomatsaid the Dutch Government is closely following the East Sea situationand supports the European Union’s statement on the issue.

The Government expressed deep concerns over the tension, triggered byChina’s stationing of the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Vietnam’sexclusive economic zone, and called on all sides concerned to solve theissue peacefully, according to Doan.

Earlier on theday, Doan together with the embassy’s staff and the Vietnamese communityin the Netherlands welcomed Vice Chairman Luu, who updated them on theNA’s operation as well as the socio-economic situation at home.

Luu also informed about the latest developments in the East Sea andaffirmed the State and Party’s determination to safeguard Vietnam’ssovereignty peacefully.

He asked the embassy toprovide more favourable conditions for Vietnamese people, particularlyyoungsters, in the host country so they can work further to benefit bothcountries.

In the time ahead, the NA will makeamendments to the Law on Housing to make it easier for overseasVietnamese people to buy properties in their homeland, he noted.-VNA
