The second conference of Vietnamese people’s organisations convened in Hanoi on June 30 in preparation for the upcoming 6 th ASEAN People’s Forum (APF6) to be held in the country.
The conference heard a report on the results of the first preparatory meeting to the APF6, which took place from May 29-30 with the participation of many social entities and non-governmental organisations from ASEAN nations.
The first conference agreed on the need to improve the method of organising the APF6 in order to strengthen the controlling role of the people’s organisations of ASEAN countries in the preparation and organisation of the forum. The conference also agreed to approve a plan on organising the forum.
The participants at the conference discussed the contents of the forum’s agenda and contributed ideas on the contents and interface of the APF6 website.
The APF6 will be held in Hanoi from September 23 -26 under the theme of “Solidarity and Action for ASEAN towards People”.
It will include five plenary sessions and 16 symposiums aiming at strengthening the mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation among ASEAN social movements and people’s organisations and discussing measures to boost coordination among ASEAN people’s organisations in the coming time.
The forum will propose recommendations to ASEAN leaders in an effort to build an ASEAN community towards people.
The second preparatory meeting will take place in Hanoi in late July, expected to draw the participation of representatives ASEAN people’s organisations./.
