The domestically-transmitted infectionsinclude one case in central Quang Nam province, one in the capital city of Hanoi,one in southern Dong Nai province, one in northern Hai Duong province and 14 othersat the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district.
The new patients brought thetotal number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 3,022, including 1,626domestically-transmitted cases. Of them, 56 cases were detected since the latestoutbreak hit the country on April 27.
According to the MoH’s MedicalService Administration, a total of 2,560 patients were given the all-clear fromcoronavirus SARS-CoV-2, while the death toll related to the disease remained at 35.
Among active patientsundergoing treatment at medical establishments, 24 tested negative to the virus,12 twice and 38 thrice.
As many as 40,736 people whohad close contact with COVID-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic-hitregions are currently quarantined across the country, including 560 in hospitals,21,733 in state-designated establishments and 18,443 at their residences.
The MoH also decided to extendthe compulsory concentrated quarantine period to 21 days instead of 14 days aspreviously, Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said at a regular meeting ofthe Government on May 5 morning.
The decision came into forceright on May 5, the minister said.
The local centres for diseasecontrol must be accountable for monitoring and medically supervising people whocomplete the concentrated quarantine period for the next seven days.
In a related move, the MoH’s MedicalService Administration has asked the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases inHanoi’s Dong Anh district to take drastic measures to prevent transmissionsamong its staff after 14 of its members tested positive to the virus and theestablishment was put under lockdown on May 5.
The hospital was requested todevise plans to maintain its medical checkup and treatment for inpatients whoare currently quarantined and treated at the facility./.
