The 11th conference of the environment ministers of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea took place in Ho Chi Minh City on October 27, focusing on the progress of cooperative projects in the field.
The projects cover the RoK’s help to Vietnam in amending and implementing the Law on Environmental Protection as well as improving the legal framework for the rehabilitation of contaminated land and groundwater.
The two sides have also worked together to build an integrated management system for toxic waste in Vietnam and promote investment and business activities in the field of environmental protection.
In addition, the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment and the Korea Environment Institute (KEI) are carrying out a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang said he hopes the two sides will continue to work out specific projects in the field, which is made one of the three key aspects of cooperation between the two countries.
The Vietnam-RoK Environment Business Forum was also held on the sidelines of the meeting, offering a good chance for businesses and environmentalists to seek partners and share experience.
Deputy Minister of Construction Phan Thi My Linh said the number of Korean investors in the environment industry has been increasing over the past few years. The RoK has actively supported Vietnam in urban development, particularly in upgrading the infrastructure for water supply and drainage and solid waste treatment.-VNA
