Vietnam, RoK boost judicial cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Judicial officials from Vietnam and the Republic of Korea said at a conference in Hanoi that the two countries have achieved positive results in judicial cooperation since they began implementing specific activities in 2002.

The conference, which was held by the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam in collaboration with the Supreme Court of the RoK, focused on reviewing the cooperation between the two courts and directions for their development.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Justice Nguyen Van Thuan appreciated the cooperation and assistance from the RoK government and the Supreme Court of the Rok in improving the training of judges and officials of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, contributing to improving the quality of trials.

Thuan wished that the two courts would continue to maintain and develop achieved cooperation results, and make preparations to sign and implement the next stages of cooperation to contribute to reforming, building and developing Vietnam’s judiciary system.

Judge Kim You-sung, from the Judicial Research & Training Institute of the Supreme Court of RoK, said the project on building the capability of the court officials training school is a landmark in the judicial cooperation between the two countries.

In the project, the RoK assists Vietnam in terms of equipment and expertise by sending RoK judges to help Vietnam build a judge training system, as well as training 20 key officials of the Vietnam court in the RoK for three months.

Judge Kim wants the two sides to cooperate in training a group of experts on RoK law for Vietnam’s judicial system and implement the building of a long-term training programme for Vietnamese judges and court officials.-VNA
