Vietnam, RoK discuss copyright challenges in digital environment

Vietnamese and Korean experts gathered in Ho Chi Minh City on March 26 for the Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) Copyright Forum 2024, a joint effort by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency (KCOPA) to tackle pressing issues related to copyright protection in the digital environment.

HCM City (VNA) – Vietnameseand Korean experts gathered in Ho Chi Minh City on March 26 for the Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) Copyright Forum 2024, a joint effort by theVietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea CopyrightProtection Agency (KCOPA) to tackle pressing issues related to copyrightprotection in the digital environment.

Discussions focused on navigating copyrightcomplexities in the digital environment, emerging trends in copyright policiesamid artificial intelligence boom, and the responsibilities of onlineintermediaries for combating digital copyright infringement. Participants alsoexplored potential solutions and avenues for stronger bilateral cooperation.

Pham ThiKim Oanh, Deputy Director of the ministry’s Copyright Office of Vietnam, highlighted the need for robusttechnological solutions for copyright tracking and transparent use.

KCOPA President Park Jung-youl showcased theRoK's success in developing automated software to detect and countereavesdropping apps globally. He expressed interest in collaborating withVietnam, among other countries, to transfer this technology in order to bolstermonitoring capabilities and safeguard the rights of authors and their works.

Regarding the protection of music copyrights, General Director of the Vietnam Centre for ProtectingMusic Copyright (VCPMC) Dinh Trung Can called for raising public awareness of intellectualproperty ownership laws. He advocated for enhanced international cooperation inprotecting musical works in the digital environment and urged Vietnam'sparticipation in relevant international treaties.

He further encouraged copyright holders toactively identify violations and exercise their legal rights ofself-protection. This includes taking existing solutions like YouTube's ContentID and Facebook's Rights Manager, alongside exploring the development of newplatforms dedicated to tracking copyright infringement.

Park Soo-ho, Chairman of the Korea MusicCopyright Association (KOMCA), proposed stronger bilateral cooperation incopyright development, such as fostering the exchange of copyright informationbetween the two countries and facilitating the global monitoring of copyrightedworks./.

People-to-people diplomacy contributes to Ho Chi Minh City’s development

Ho Chi Minh City currently has 117 licensed foreign NGOs operating in areas including healthcare, education, social protection and community development. As of September 2026, the municipal People’s Committee had approved 30 applications to receive and implement project and non-project aid packages, with total committed funding of about 302 billion VND (11.6 million USD).

Hanoi puts 28 more electric buses into operation

The new VinFast Green Bus vehicles, manufactured in 2026, have a capacity of 60 passengers. They are equipped with low floors for easier boarding, facilities for people with disabilities, air conditioning and other modern amenities to improve passengers’ comfort and travel experience.

500-day campaign brings fallen soldiers closer to home

Information provided by local residents in Son La province helped authorities find the remains of two fallen soldiers after four days of searching. At Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, 701 sets of remains and 304 sets of personal items have been recovered, while in Ca Mau province, more than 3,000 unidentified graves have been excavated and biological samples collected.

Vietnam, Japan promote exchanges on law and justice

Speaking at the working session, Chief Judge of the People’s Court of Hanoi - Region 2 Hoang Ngoc Thanh said the meeting provided an opportunity for the two sides to share practical experience in judicial activities, thereby enhancing mutual understanding of the laws and practices governing the settlement of IP-related cases in Vietnam and Japan.
