Vietnam, Russia set to establish joint university

The visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training, Nguyen Thien Nhan, and Russian Minister of Education and Science Andrey Fursenko reached the agreement during their talks on March 15.

The officials held that Russia will continue providing assistance in education and training, and increasing scholarships for Vietnamese graduates and post-graduates.

Russia also agreed to help Vietnam upgrade its university libraries by setting up a connected electronic library centre, train specialists in Russian and send Russian language teachers to the Southeast Asian country.

Deputy PM Nhan said Vietnam is willing to receive more Russian students who have studied Vietnamese for internship and further training.

Following the talks, the two sides signed an accord regarding the reciprocal recognition and equivalence of education diplomas and scientific degrees of Vietnam and Russia .

They decided to organise regular inter-ministerial meetings to examine the bilateral cooperation in education and training.

The same day, the Vietnamese delegation held talks with representatives from the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation and signed a memorandum of understanding on the training of atomic experts for Vietnam .

On March 16, Deputy PM Nhan was received by his Russian counterpart, Alexander Zhukov, who affirmed that Vietnam is an important strategic and prioritised partner of Russia . The two countries need to exchange regular visits, including those by top leaders, to further develop bilateral ties, he said.

Nhan highlighted the fraternal sentiments between the two peoples, and briefed his host of the results of education-training cooperation as well as the outcome of the ongoing visit.

During his six-day visit running through March 17, Nhan and his entourage laid a wreath at the statue dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Moscow and called at the Moscow State University, the Saint Petersburg State University, the Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University and the Bauman State Technical University./.
