Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement while receiving newly-appointed Singaporean Ambassador Ng Teck Hean, who was paying a courtesy call to him in Hanoi on September 7.

Dung said Vietnam and Singapore should continue to exert efforts to lift bilateral ties to a new height for the sake of both peoples and the building of a stable and prosperous ASEAN Community, thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the rest of the world.

He expressed his belief that the new ambassador will make positive contributions to promoting cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially economics, trade, investment and tourism.

Dung asked the two sides to closely cooperate in building a united and firm ASEAN community that holds the central role in the cooperation with the partners and maintains the common stance on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issues.

The PM said he hopes Singapore will support Vietnam in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations.

Ambassador Ng Teck Hean thanked the Vietnamese Government, ministries, sectors and localities for the support and favourable conditions they have given to the Singaporean businesses operating in Vietnam .

He said he will try his best to contribute to strengthening the bilateral ties and cooperation.

Regarding the East Sea issues, the diplomat affirmed his county’s consistent stance of supporting the settlement of all issues related to the East Sea through peaceful negotiations and on the basis of respect to the international law.-VNA
