Vietnam starts manufacturing ship engines

Vietnam ’s first ship engine plant, a join venture between the Bach Dang Shipbuilding Corporation and the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd of Japan , was put into operation on February 3.
Vietnam ’s first ship engine plant, ajoin venture between the Bach Dang Shipbuilding Corporation and theMitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd of Japan , was put into operation onFebruary 3.

The plant in the northern port city ofHai Phong will enable the country to build first ships usingdomestically made engines.

The plant will churn out 22 diesel engines with a capacity of2,600-23,500 Kw each year. The first engine will be installed at a22,500-tonne ship ordered by the VINASHIN Petroleum Investment andTransport Joint Stock Company.

The building of the plant is said to be a new step in a roadmap todevelop the country’s shipbuilding industry with a target of producingdomestically 60 percent of ship parts.

The Bach Dang shipyard is also carrying out projects to build two other diesel engine plants./.

Average consumer price index (CPI) rose 4.52% in the first nine months, roughly in line with the National Assembly (NA)'s full-year target, while core inflation climbed 4.26%, the National Statistics Office (NSO) reported.
