Geneva (VNA) - A delegation from the Supreme People's Court led by its Chief Justice Nguyen Hoa Binh made a working visit to Switzerland from April 26 to May 1 to exchange judicial experience with the European country.

Receiving the delegation at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland, Chief Justice Donzallaz Yves briefed his guests on the Swiss court system, including the role of the Federal Supreme Court, and shared experience in the operation of the court.

For his part, Binh introduced achievements in judicial reform that Vietnam has recorded over the years.

At a meeting with Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Sylvie Forbin, Binh asked for the organisation's support in training as well as sharing of data and information, especially experience of courts in settling cases related to intellectual property, Internet, and artificial intelligence (AI). This is a global problem that Vietnam is facing amid the booming of information technology and AI, he held.

Forbin affirmed WIPO’s willingness to cooperate with and support Vietnam in strengthening the capacity of judges as well as the court system in the field of intellectual property.

WIPO has already worked closely with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam to help perfect the legal system, internalise international commitments, and create a legal corridor for activities of courts, she said.

The Vietnamese delegation also held working sessions with leaders of state courts in Geneva and Lausanna to learn about their experience in handling criminal, civil, administrative and public cases.

They also met with Andreas Keller, former criminal judge at the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, who shared information about the Swiss judicial system and experience in solving criminal cases.

Within the framework of the visit, Binh delivered a speech at a ceremony to mark the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and met with staffs of the Vietnamese permanent mission to Geneva and the Vietnamese Embassy in Berne./.
