Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese students claimed four gold medals in the track-and-field events during the 8th ASEAN School Games on July 26 in Thailand.
Bui Van Hung triumphed in the boy’s javelin event. Wanchalarm Roscha of the hosts and Wang Tingjia of Singapore were second and third, respectively.
Quang Thi Lai topped the girl’s 400m with a time of 55.41sec. Her teammate Can Thi Thuy took the silver and Manlika Phonyiam of Thailand grabbed the bronze.
Pham Thi Thuy Hanh earned Vietnam’s fourth gold in the girl’s 1,500m, clocking 4min 42.86sec. Indonesian Delvita Lodia Bakun and Vietnamese Bui Thi Mai were two the runners-up.
Huynh Thi My Tien won the first gold of the day in the girl’s 100m hurdles event. Tien finished her race with a time of 14.47sec. Nuttawan Davandee of Thailand came second, followed by Tia Louise Rozario of Singapore.
The Vietnamese also secured four silvers on July 26.
The first one went to Mai Thi Huynh Nhu in the girl’s 3,000m walk with a time of 16.40min. She was second behind Thai Pataraporn Malila who needed only 15.48 to win. Singapore’s Chng Shu Yi came third, clocking 16.54.
Dang Thi Trang pocketed another in the girl’s javelin event. She made a throw of 39.74m, nearly 3m less than winner Atinna Nurkamila Intan Bahtiar of Indonesia. Kawalin Lobprasoet was third.
Vu Duc Anh of Vietnam placed second in the boy’s high jump with a result of 2.03m. Malaysian Muhamad Eizlan Bin Dahalan topped the podium and his teammate Muhammad Amzar Syahmie Bin Mohd Zaim third.
Vietnamese quartet claimed silver in the girl’s 100m relay. They failed to overcome Thailand in the last metres. The Thais won the gold while the bronze went to Indonesia.
In the last day of swimming on July 26, Tran Thi Ngoc grabbed the only medal for Vietnam. She finished second in the girl’s 200m butterfly with a time of 2:20.64. Kanitta Nimdam of the hosts triumphed the event. Indonesian Azzahra Permatahani came third.
After four days, Vietnam maintain at third position in the medal tally with 15 gold medals.
Thailand has created a large gap with other countries as the team have taken 35 titles. Indonesia are second with 22.
All competitions will finish on July 27 and the closing ceremony will be on July 29.-VNA
Vietnam sets record at ASEAN School Games
The Vietnamese team bagged 20 gold medals from the week-long ASEAN School Games which concluded in Singapore on July 7.
