Vietnam to administer AstraZeneca vaccine to people with 2 doses of mRNA vaccine

The MOH recommended that people who have administered a full dose (2 doses) of mRNA vaccine, ie vaccines made by Pfizer or Moderna, can receive a booster dose with the vaccine made by AstraZeneca.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has just issued an official dispatch to the Departments of Health of the provinces and cities in Vietnam as well as the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Pasteur Institute, the General Department of Health, the Ministry of Public Security; Department of Military Medicine, General Department of Logistics of Ministry of Defense, on standard and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

The MOH recommended that people who have administered a full dose (2 doses) of mRNA vaccine, ie vaccines made by Pfizer or Moderna, can receive a booster dose with the vaccine made by AstraZeneca.

The minimum waiting time to administer the booster dose is 3 months after the last administration of the mRNA vaccine.

In the document, MOH suggested that the health departments of provinces and cities advise the chairmen of the People's Committees of the provinces and cities to decide on the subjects of injection in accordance with the actual situation and requirements for disease prevention and control in their localities. The health departments need to discuss and develop a plan and prepare the necessary conditions for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, ensuring safety and effectiveness.

The General Department of Health, the Ministry of Public Security, the Military Medical Department, the General Department of Logistics, and the Ministry of National Defense advise the leaders of the relevant ministries to decide on suitable subjects for vaccine administration. They need to develop a plan and prepare necessary conditions for vaccine administration, ensuring safety and effectiveness.

According to the MOH, as of March 26, the total number of the COVID-19 vaccine doses that had been administered nationwide was 204,861,158. The number of doses administered to people aged 18 and over was 187,727,790.
