Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s attendance at the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, China from June 27-29, will be a chance for Vietnam to share the country’s development achievements, experience and orientations.

Themed “Entrepreneurship: The Driving Force of the Global Economy”, the 14th AMNC expects the participation of more than 1,500 delegates who are national leaders, representatives of political, economic, academic circles as well as social and international organisations.

PM Chinh’s participation at the event proves that Vietnam has become an active partner of the international community in efforts to shape the future, as well as a favoured destination for businesses from all over the world, especially WEF member economies.

Vietnam’s imprints at WEF

The relationship between Vietnam and the WEF started in 1989, right when the country embarked on its economic reform. It provided an important forum for Vietnamese leaders to engage in dialogues with world leading businesses, helping to form ideas about economic reform, and bringing about opportunities for the country to boost investment and economic development.

Over the past 34 years, high-ranking officials of Vietnam have regularly attended annual WEF meetings in Davos, Switzerland, and the WEF on East Asia.

Vietnam attended WEF Davos at prime minister level four times (in 2007, 2010, 2017 và 2019), and the others at deputy PM level. The country has joined the WEF on ASEAN, which was called WEF on East Asia before 2016, at the PM level five times.

Vietnam has always been an active participant at those events, proposing new ideas and measures to carry out practical cooperation plans. The outstanding imprint that Vietnam has left at the WEF was the country’s hosting of the WEF on East Asia in 2010 in Ho Chi Minh City, the WEF on Mekong Region in 2016 in Hanoi, the WEF on ASEAN in 2018, and the first Vietnam-WEF Country Strategic Dialogue in 2021 (in the online format).

The strengthening of cooperation through WEF programmes and projects, as well as attendance at WEF meetings, and successful coordination in hosting WEF events have helped Vietnam attract investment, promote the country's image, foster relationships with global firms, updating on new trends and advanced development-management mindset.

Joining this year’s event as a trustworthy partner and a responsible member of the international community, Vietnam will make positive contributions and coordinate with international partners to settle global issues, aiming to maintaining and promoting the regional and world economic growth.

This is an opportunity for Vietnam to discuss with heads of governments of countries, leaders of international organisations and leading experts and scholars in the world global and regional issues of mutual interest, while strengthening connectivity activities and expanding partnerships, thus contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position in regional and global supply chains.

Motivations of global economy and messages of Vietnam

WEF Tianjin has the second largest scale after WEF Davos. It takes place in the context that the global economy experiences many challenges and negative impacts from complicated and unpredictable developments in the world.

The problems faced by the regional and global supply chains due to COVID-19 impacts have prevented the recovery and development of economies in the region and the world.

According to the organising board, the core goal of the 14th AMNC is to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in Asia and around the world, thus finding a way for economic recovery in a healthy and sustainable manner, while giving assessments of the economic prospects of China as well as the whole Asian region.

Featuring more than 100 sessions, the meeting will focus on issues of growth adjustments, energy and material transition, natural and climate protection, post-pandemic consumption, China situation, and innovation.

According to Standing Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, Vietnam will make contributions to the event in three aspects.

Firstly, PM Chinh will call on the regional and global business communities as well as governments to strengthen cooperation and open their markets for trade and investment activities, while actively supporting enterprises and unlocking resources for economic recovery amid the recent decline trend.

Secondly, through the event, PM Chinh will share Vietnam's experience and learn from experience and lessons from other economies and major businesses in creating, activating and taking advantage of new growth drivers such as digital transformation, green transition, energy transition, and circular economy development to contribute to realising fast, sustainable, inclusive and innovative growth models based on science and technology and bring practical benefits to the people.

Thirdly, through this event that draws many Government leaders and leading regional and international businesses, the PM will call on the global business community to continue to pay attention to and increase investment in the Vietnamese market and the Vietnamese economy.

The PM will highlight the position, potential and advantages of the Vietnamese economy and priorities of the Vietnamese Government in economic development, thus calling for high quality investment resources and leading firms to cooperate in areas of green transition, digital transformation, energy, science-technology, and circular and digital economy development, said Vu.

He added that PM Chinh will also raise a number of proposals on public-private partnership and the model of coordination between the Government and businesses to draw green and sustainable financial resources to the Vietnamese economy.

Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai said at the meeting, PM Chinh is scheduled to attend and share Vietnam’s vision at the plenary session themed ‘Braving the Headwinds: Rewiring Growth Amid Fragility’, and the leaders’ working lunch on preventing a decade of loss.

On this occasion, PM Chinh and a WEF leader will co-chair the WEF’s Country Strategic Dialogue on Vietnam. He will also attend a Vietnam - China business forum and meet with leaders of other countries and enterprises present at the 14thAMNC.

Vietnam’s participation at the WEF Tianjin 2023 provides the country a chance to share the development achievements, experience and orientations with countries, international organisations and global firms, aiming to realise the country’s socio-economic development goals and growth model transformation./.
