Vietnam attaches a great deal of importance to strengthening and developing its traditional friendship with Bulgaria.
The remark was made by Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan at talks with Bulgarian leaders during her visit to the European country from October 17-21.
She expressed her pleasure at returning to Bulgaria and witnessing the positive changes in the country and its development as well as its integration further into Europe .
Bulgaria ’s leaders expressed their admiration at Vietnam ’s socio-economic achievements in the national renewal process and hailed its prestige and standing in the region and the international arena as well as congratulating the country on its contributions as ASEAN Chair in 2010.
Both parties agreed with developments in their bilateral relationship, but, they said, economic ties, trade and investment have not yet matched their full potential.
The Bulgarian showed their eagerness to expand cooperation with Vietnam , especially in politics, diplomacy, trade, education and training, defence and security, labour exports and tourism.
They also discussed measures on mutual assistance when negotiating with the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Vice President Doan took the opportunity to thank the Bulgarian State and its people for their attention and helping the Vietnamese community there, saying that she wanted the Bulgarian administration to continue facilitating the Vietnamese community living and working in the country, which will strengthen and develop their bilateral friendship.
She also presented the medal of friendship to two Bulgarian citizens, journalist K. Kadrinova and the Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese-Bulgarian Friendship Association S. Dmitrova, who have contributed to promoting the image of Vietnam and developing the friendship between the two countries over past decades.
Both said that Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan’s visit, on the 60 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between both countries, would promote their bilateral friendship and multifaceted cooperation for the benefit of both peoples./.
