Vietnam, Uruguay trade exchange spotlighted

A seminar on trade exchange opportunities between Vietnam and Uruguay was held in the capital city of Montevideo on April 26.

Addressing the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina and Uruguay Nguyen Van Dao spoke of Vietnam ’s economic, trade and investment achievements.

The diplomat invited Uruguayan businesses to visit and explore Vietnam’s market to set up mutually beneficial partnerships in the context of important development of bilateral political ties, including the Vietnam visit by Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez in 2007 and the Uruguay visit in 2009 by State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, plus the opening of the Uruguayan embassy in Vietnam late last year.

Mariana Ferreira from Uruguay XXI Institute emphasised the fields where Vietnam and Uruguay can expand trade exchange in future.

According to Uruguay Customs, two-way trade reached a record 63 million USD last year, a four-fold increase in five years.

Vietnam exports cement, footwear, fish, dried coconut fibre, printers, rubber, suitcases and handbags to Uruguay and imports timber, fish, soybeans and pharmaceutical products.

At the event, documents and video films on Vietnam ’s land, country and business guidance were also shown.-VNA
