President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Dang Ngoc Tung held talks with President of the American Federation of Labour and Congress of Industrial Organisation (AFL-CIO) Richard Trumka on Sept. 19 .
Trumka said Tung’s current visit opened up a new page in cooperative relations between the trade unions of the two countries, and expressed his desire to cooperate and share experience with Vietnam in this field.
Tung talked about the challenges the Vietnamese trade union faces in performing its role of representing and protecting the rights of workers.
The two officials agreed on areas of cooperation between the Vietnamese and US trade unions, especially in training trade union cadres at grassroots levels and tightening linkages among trade union cadre training schools.
AFL-CIO now has more than 11 million members at 56 trade union organisations across the US. /.
