Vietnam wants exclusion from US’s steel tariff

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) of Vietnam has urged the US Government to consider excluding Vietnamese products from its newly announced tariff measures on imported steel and aluminium.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Industry and Trade(MoIT) of Vietnam has urged the US Government to consider excluding Vietnamese productsfrom its newly announced tariff measures on imported steel and aluminium.

The ministry stressed that Vietnamese steel and aluminiumproducts are sold to the US are intended for use in civil construction, not forinfrastructure or security-defence purposes, thus not affecting the US’s goalof ensuring national security.

Moreover, Vietnam’s steel and aluminium products account forjust a marginal proportion in the US’s import of those products, therefore theyneither cause nor threaten to cause any damage to the US steel and aluminiumindustries, the MoIT said.

The ministry will continue to keep close watch of thesituation and consider subsequent actions to ensure the legitimate interests ofVietnamese enterprises while maintaining the growing trend of the comprehensivepartnership between Vietnam and the US.
