Vietnam welcomes the intensified cooperation between the US and the Asia-Pacific, including Vietnam, on the principle of respecting the United Nations Charter, international law, and countries’ political institution, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang made the remark during his meeting with US State Department’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asia and the Pacific Scot Marciel in Washington D.C. on March 15.
He expressed his delight at the continuous development of bilateral relations in socio-economics, crime prevention and security-defence, especially after the establishment of their comprehensive partnership in July 2013.
Vietnam has made significant achievements in national development and protection, raising its global standing, noted Quang.
The official continued to say that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, peace, cooperation and development; multilateralisation and diversification of relations; and proactive international integration.
For his part, Scot Marciel described Minister Quang’s visit as a promising start to a number of activities to be held this year in celebration of the 20th founding anniversary of the countries’ relations.
Visiting the Vietnamese Embassy on the same day, the Minister noted Vietnam treasures its comprehensive partnership with the US and asked the Embassy staff to devote themselves to realising pledges and agreements, fostering high-ranking visits, and facilitating collaboration between sectors and localities of the two countries.
He also requested the staff enhance the protection of the legitimate rights of overseas Vietnamese and impart Party and State guidelines and policies to expatriates so as to bolster bilateral ties.-VNA
