Vietnam wins three golds at int’l maths contest

The Vietnamese delegation to the 2013 International Mathematics Competition (BIMIC 2013) held early this month in Bulgaria have won three gold medals at the event, which is designed for students in grades 5 to 10.

The gold medals went to Pham Nam Khanh, Phan Minh Duc and Le Quang Minh in the category of grades 5 to 7.

Also in this category, Ho Minh Loc and Nguyen Nam Viet bagged silvers, Mai Thien An and Pham Kim Anh pocketed bronzes, while Le Tran Hoanh got a consolidation prize. The Vietnam team came second in this category.

In the event for 8th -10th graders, Nguyen Dinh Bach, Pham Quang Nam and Le Hong Hanh won three bronzes while Dinh Phuc Hung, Pham Ha My and Pham Minh Duc came home with consolidation prizes.

All 15 students in the Vietnamese team are from the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

At a reception for the students after the contest, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bulgaria Le Duc Luu praised their good performance and presented them with gifts.

The BIMC 2013 took place from June 30 – July 5 and drew the participation of 1,080 students from 31 nations and territories worldwide.

The next event will be held in the Republic of Korea in 2014.-VNA
