Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son has affirmed that the Vietnamese government is keen on further deepening its friendship and cooperation with Argentina, within the framework of a bilateral comprehensive partnership.
The official made the remarks whilst co-chairing the sixth political consultation between the foreign ministries of Vietnam and Argentina with his counterpart Eduardo Zuain in Hanoi on March 24.
He suggested that the two sides should increase the exchange of delegations of all levels, while maintaining existing affiliation such as the Trans-Governmental Committee and political consultations in a flexible and effective manner.
The two countries should continue bolstering economics-trade-investment and cultural connection as well as coordination within the South-South partnership framework, he said.
Son also thanked the Argentinean side for sending one of their art troupes to perform in the Hue Festival this April, an initiative boosting Asia-Latin America cultural exchange.
Zuain said his country believes Vietnam to be an important friend and partner in Southeast Asia, and wishes to expand the relationship into promising areas such as telecommunications, culture and education, wind power, agriculture and anthropology.
During the talks, the two sides expressed their delight at the progress of their bilateral cooperation, especially after the Argentina visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in 2010 and President Christina Fernandez’s visit to Vietnam in 2013. Notably, two-way trade hit nearly 1.6 billion USD last year.
They also highlighted the importance of coordination between the two foreign ministries in the success of activities celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2013.
The delegations discussed regional and international matters of mutual concern, pledging to support each other at international organisations as well as multilateral forums.
During his stay in Vietnam, the Argentinean official will pay tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and visit some historical and cultural relics of Hanoi.-VNA
