Vietnamese, American trade unions look forward better ties

A delegation of Vietnamese high-ranking trade union officials paid a working visit to California, the United States from April 6-13 in an effort to boost ties between the two countries’ trade unions.
A delegation of Vietnamese high-ranking trade union officials paid a working visit to California, the United States from April 6-13 in an effort to boost ties between the two countries’ trade unions.

During the visit, the delegation headed by Hoang Ngoc Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), worked with the Service Employers International Union (SEIU), the International Federation of Professionals and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW).

Also, the delegation met trade union activists in San Francisco and Alameda , visited several trade union schools, including the California Faculty Association (CFA) and had dialogues with scholars and politicians who are interested in Vietnam .

At the meetings, Vietnamese trade union activists briefed American friends the situation as well as trade union movements in Vietnam , shared experiences and discussed measures to boost their bilateral ties.

The Alameda City Council has reportedly passed a resolution to strengthen solidarity with Vietnamese trade unions.

The visit was said to be a breakthrough, opening up a new chapter in the two countries’ trade union relations./.
