Vietnamese athletes dominate with 19 golds at SE canoeing championships' first day

Vietnamese athletes claimed the most medals at the first rounds of the 2024 Southeast Asia Canoeing, U19 and U23 Championships that opened in the northern port city of Hai Phong on July 4.

Hai Phong (VNA) – Vietnamese athletes claimed the most medals at the first rounds of the 2024 Southeast Asia Canoeing, U19 and U23 Championships that opened in the northern port city of Hai Phong on July 4.

They won 19 golds, 17 silvers and six bronzes while Indonesia pocketed two silvers and four bronzes, Thailand two golds, three silvers and 11 bronzes, Malaysia one gold and one silver, Cambodia one bronze, and Singapore four golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

The Vietnamese athletes excellently performed in such categories as men’s 1,000-metre canoe single, young women 1,000-metre canoe double, women’s 1,000-metre canoe single, and 1,000-metre kayak cross.

Nearly 200 athletes are participating in the championships.

Earlier, Vietnamese athletes bagged 34 gold medals, ranking first at the 2024 Southeast Asia rowing event, which concluded on June 30./.
