Hanoi (VNA) – Overseas Vietnamese (OV) communities in China’s Hong Kong and Macau have actively responded to fundraising campaigns to support those suffering significant damage due to Typhoon Yagi and consequent flooding in Vietnam.

As of September 18, the Vietnamese Association in Hong Kong, along with staff members of various Vietnamese agencies and organisations, and other Vietnamese groups in the region, had contributed nearly 485 million VND (19,731 USD) to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.

Nguyen Bao Anh, Vice President of the Vietnamese Association in Hong Kong, highlighted the spirit of solidarity and mutual support in helping compatriots recover from the storm’s aftermath.

The newly established organisation aspires to become a part of Vietnam in Hong Kong, working together to grow and strengthen the overseas Vietnamese community and to showcase the cultural beauty and the standing of Vietnam on the international stage, Bao Anh noted.

As of September 17, the Vietnamese Association in Macau had raised 134,000 MOP (16,678 USD) in support of Yagi-affected Vietnamese residents.

President of the association Duong Trung Duc shared that immediately after learning about the situation, its executive committee rallied the expatriate community and benefactors to spread the spirit of solidarity and support for the victims.

In a related move, the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand held a ceremony on September 19 to receive over 4.6 billion VND donated by the OV community. The funds were raised during just over a week following a call for support to help those in need back home./.
